Nottingham Visit

A Perfect Time In Nottingham

Just twelve miles from the city centre is the perfect place to stay in Nottingham ...  Langar Hall   is an elegant country house set in stunning gardens with flowing water, flowers, sheep, stunning trees and breathtaking scenery on its doorstep. It has a wonderful restaurant with an excellent chef and a conservatory overlooking the gardens where an elegant breakfast and afternoon tea are served. It is truly a 'step back in time'.

Within this elegant country house, The Barbara Cartland Suite is a charming room, which in the past has been frequently inhabited by her (for those who do not know of   Barbara Cartland  - she was a fluffy pink meringue of an 'author' who wrote many romantic novels throughout her charmed life before she floated away from us on a pink cloud). She apparently stopped here on her way from London to Scotland each year and the suite is dedicated to her and is filled with flowers and romantic novels, and (minus the original pink) is tastefully furnished with antiques and has a truly inspirational outlook.

An exhibition within the hotel contained some lovely original paintings and drawings by local artists, which were for sale. I particularly liked this one  ...

The food is excellent and a wonderful yummy dinner of rabbit and lentils was particularly inspired ...

Afternoon tea and cakes are also not to be missed even by those with a less than svelte figure  ...

Further afield is the City of Nottingham, well known for its connection to the (some say) imaginary legend of Robin Hood.  A new Ridley Scott inspired film starring Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett, which opened this year was, however, filmed entirely in Wales!

Within the city are many references to the legend ...

Robin Hood By James Woodford

Just outside the city walls is this bronze 'Robin Hood' by James Woodford, one of many around the city and lots of the local roads and avenues are also named after the 'characters' in the story. For instance this is Maid Marian Way ...

The castle is a particular highlight of the area and is set in lovely gardens. There are also many other parks and gardens nearby.

There are also many shops, including a dazzling Vivienne Westwood store, and art galleries and some wonderful cafes too ...

  1. I've never visited Nottingham, but it certainly sounds as if it's well worth a visit. I'll have to add it to the list of places we'd like to go to some day. The hotel sounds lovely, and looks so beautiful. I would have loved to have a Queen Anne house just like that to live in, my dream house, but sadly I haven't won the lottery yet.
