Some of you may remember a Giveaway that I did two years ago of a book by Lesley Stanfield called 100 Flowers To Knit And Crochet. It is an amazing book full of small colourful things, which can adorn an item or simply to make a decoration. The book is one of my very favourites and I have bought it numerous times for friends and family as a gift. I own a copy myself and frequently use it. The book is full of pretty embellishments and simple ideas to use scraps of yarn. The patterns are all easy to understand as they are written both in text and chart form. This is available on Amazon.

This lovely book has now been superceeded by 75 Birds, Butterflies and Beautiful Beasties To Knit or Crochet by Lesley Stanfield and is once again a real delight. I own a copy myself and am looking forward to making some of the colourful things in the book. The birds and beasties are fabulous.

*** NOTE: One person I so admire is Camila Batman Ghelidjh an Iranian born charity activist who has devoted her life to the disadvantaged youth in London. The Kids Company cares for over 17,000 children in the London area and her colourful approach is in evidence when dealing with emotionally and physically disadvantaged children and adults. In my eyes she is a superstar!

I don't knit or crochet, so the book would be wasted on me, but if I won I'd give it to my sister in law who would love it. I've already mentioned your giveaway on my blog.
ReplyDeleteOne of the people that I admire most is Nicola Adams, the girl who won the Olympic boxing gold. Not because I enjoy boxing, I really don't, but because she was so humble when she won and so dedicated to her sport.
I'm going to have to think on that, no one instantly comes to mind, or at least no one in the public eye. However I am adding the book to my amazon wish list - perfect for

ReplyDeleteBack again. I'm not one for watching TV, or reading papers, so I don't know much about a lot of public people, but I think I would choose Princess Diana. She probably should never have married PC but I suspect she wasn't mature enough to see the problems or to fight the 'firm' but she grew in confidence and became very much her own person. She brought those boys up to be far stronger individuals than the generation before, and she showed it wouldn't kill you to touch an aids victim. RIP Diana

ReplyDeleteI love your pretty blog and have joined as a follower. I admire David Beckham because he has progressed in leaps and bounds from a tongue-tied footballer to a respected sports ambassador. This is a generous giveaway but not my thing this time as I don't have the patience for knitting small things. Best wishes and good luck with your competition.
ReplyDeleteI don't knit or crochet yet... If I won I'd give it a try. One person I admire is Denise Austin, the fitness guru. I've exercised along with her on and off for years. She's always encouraging and her workouts are reasonable too.

I admire Aung San Suu Kyi for devoting much of her life to her country Burma. She received the Noble Peace prize and is an inspiration to the ordinary people of Burma.

If I just think about the present, someone close to home, it would be our Prime Minister (Australia) Julia Gillard. She has pushed through policies she believes in in spite of so much opposition and personal attack that she has had to endure - all because she is a woman.

I don't crochet/knit much, but my mother in law does a LOT so I'm sure she'd love the inspiration :)
Thank you for the chance to win this wonderful book. I crochet and I love Birds...as witnessed by my sweet lil' Sophie Louise. I can't really think of any "famous" person that I really "admire". I guess I would have to say that I especially like Sue Spargo's work in wool applique. She is an inspiring fabric artist. Her work makes me smile. :) I have become a follower of your beautiful blog.

I don;r know that there is an well known person that I admire, I admire many of the bloggers that i follow because of hte beautiful crafts that they make and the inspiration that i get from them. I admire military wives that I know because of the sacrafices that thoes families are enduring without knowing what the future might have in place. I admire people such as yourself and your group of friends taht still get together for lunch to rejoice in the company of each other even when times are difficult. I work with the unemployed individuals in a small community here in NC and see suffering and selfishness every day but there are also people that come in that are realy trying to use unemployment to grow as a person and are atleast jovial when they come to see me rather than wollowing in the negativity that life has goven them -- thoes people are the reason that I am able to stay around for the negativity in my everyday interactions. Thanks for the opportunity for this giveaway and I am a new follower.
ReplyDeleteOh wow I really resonated with your story about your lunch and real friendships. Having moved away from a lot of my friends to faraway Auastralia I depend on the internet to keep in touch. I will be following your blog, and if I dont win that wonderful book I might just have to go out and buy it myself.... :) I really admire Oprah - she does so much to uplift women and give them confidence to reach out and achieve their best.
